The sanctuary

Heliopolis on the Beqaa floor

Between Mount Lebanon and the Anti-Lebanon, at roughly 1,150 meters elevation, Rome raised Colonia Julia Augusta Felix Heliopolitana — the City of the Sun.

Processional axis east to west: Propylaea → Hexagonal Court → Great Court → Temple of Jupiter on the high western podium. The Temple of Bacchus stands immediately south, lower. Venus further southeast — a circular jewel.
